Tried the secret trail pale ale here yesterday. A fine ale with religious undertones and voluptuous yet sneaky top notes. I will come back for more soon.

This has GOT to be the worst restaurant of our trip - if not my life. First, it was dead. At 12:30 pm on a weekend during the Wildflower Festival (the rest of the city was packed!)- this should have been a red flag. What did the locals and fellow tourists know that we didn't? That The Eldo was abysmal. Second, we had to get our own water and menus. It wasn't until we had been sitting for 15 minutes that we finally flagged down our server. We then waited for our food for over and hour and half. We had a side salad (that was forgotten), a BLT, and a hamburger. The hamburger (when it finally arrived) was cold, and my BLT had literally 3 pieces of bacon and a sad piece of lettuce. And it was $50! Seriously stay away, there are so many better restaurants and local businesses in Crested Butte that deserve your money.

They brew their own beer . . . the rest is a hazy memory. If you want to mingle, the patio is stellar. Their patio is also a great view of the street. The bar more than took care of us. I will definitely stumble back.

This is a great little pub to stop into for a break from shopping downtown. They serve local beers, which is what drew us there in the first place, and they have a nice patio deck upstairs. It looks like they only have 4 local beers on draft at any given time but they have a nice selection from light to dark. It looks like this place might be pretty happening at night, but it was very enjoyable during the day as well. The patio has bench seating with tables and umbrellas as well as seating right up against the patio railing for some great people watching! It looks like they also serve food here, but we did not eat anything. Probably just your average bar menu- the kitchen was teeny!

I have spent a fair amount of time in Crested Butte and can't believe it took me this long to try this place! I loved everything about my experience. The bar is located above a local business and has a great patio that offers a nice view of the town. There isn't a ton of outdoor seating but there is plenty inside. My fiance and I visited around 1 o'clock on a Sunday and the atmosphere was so relaxing and exactly what I want on a Sunday afternoon. They offer a burger special: $10 for a burger, fries, and a draft beer. The burger was great and I ate all fries even though I'm not usually a french fry person. The bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable about the beer choices, which I look for in a brewery. Do yourself a favor and order one of their beers instead of your typical go-to. I say this for every brewery. I don't see the point in going to great local brewpub and ordering a Coors or PBR. It just doesn't make sense! I had the Wildfire ESB and it was a good choice for the cooler weather and a great pairing for the food. I can't wait to come back and try this place on a weekend night!

It was very obvious when we went here that we were not locals. We pretty much had one drink and left. It was so crowded, and we were the only ones that weren't stoned, so it was a little uncomfortable.

Eldo has been The Place to hang out in Crested Butte since the end of the last century. It is smack in the middle of Elk Street, up a flight of stairs. The room is large, and all dressed out in raw timber stained dark from age and good times. This was the place I came to eat and drink most nights after days in the surrounding mountains hiking, rock hounding, fishing, and scouting for bigger game in some of the more remote valleys. The regulars there were young guys when I first met them in the 1990's. They were full of piss and vinegar, and had wild stories to tell about elk hunting, mining, and living the life of Jeremiah Johnson. I loved their stories, and tried to remember them. The only royalty they wanted was for me to buy them another round. Heck! I would even buy them dinners now and then. It was worth it. All things run in cycles. The Yin and Yang of life led me back to Crested Butte and Eldo not so long ago. As I sat out on the deck eating dinner overlooking Elk Street, I watched a battered pick up truck park across the street. Four older dudes climbed out and made their way to Eldo's door. They emerged in the barroom shortly thereafter, all huffing on their cigs, and already slightly sautéed from an earlier stop in another saloon. I finished my excellent Burger and second draft of a tasty local craft beer brewed by the house, and waited for my Apple Pie and Coffee. High altitude hiking kicked the sh*t out of me, and left me famished and in need of sugar to balance my blood. But, it was that mildly deranged condition that helped me see things as they truly were. Those guys had left the bar and come out on the patio to enjoy the early night sky and cool breezes. I took a closer look at them as they joked and smoked, and tried to round up the local honeys for some social time. Obviously, they knew one another, as their jocularity was familiar and distainful. These ladies were out for something better. One of the men noticed me staring at them, and took offense. He poked at his friends and they came over my way to ask what for. Not a comfortable moment, but they weren't carrying, and I was. I smiled and offered them a drink. The others on the patio sort of backed away to give us room. The bartender noticed, and came out from behind the bar; a burly man who moved like a Grizzly. "Not here, fellas," was all he said. "It's okay, sir. I just offered these gentlemen a drink. I think they accepted." Realizing this was a moment for cool, and not wanting their privileges revoked, they sat down around my table, ordered their drinks and waited for me to introduce myself. I was the stranger, and that was proper etiquette. I took a closer look at the guy I had been staring at, and something in his soft green eyes seemed familiar. He was bedraggled and leather faced, but I knew this man. "Do any of you remember about twenty years ago, talking with a guy from back East, who had come up here to explore and write? Maybe you met him right here and exchanged stories?" Green eyes began to have a flicker of recollection, and one of the other dudes chimed in: "Hell, yeah! That was a tall boy with long hair and a beard like ours. A lawyer. What about him? You his son?" "His son? My good man, I am that man, himself. Just shaved and shorn, and a damn sight better looking than you miserable looking gents." The doubtful frowns slowly turned to smiles. I stood up to accentuate my height and vitality. They followed suit, and in another moment we were embracing and backslapping like long lost brothers. We spent the next two nights in reunion, meeting back the next night for dinner and more local suds. Green eyes offered to guide me to a beautiful canyon high in the Ruby's, and we spent that day hiking along a roiling creek up over 10,000 feet to a beaver pond surrounded by thick forest and skyscraping mountaintops. These men never left Crested Butte. They came as young men in search of jobs and adventure, and became old men too soon. Something about tobacco, alcohol and hard living that truncates a long life into a much shorter version. Still, it was what they knew and accepted about themselves. My arrival and our reconnecting gave them a moment's pause to reflect on all this, but they had no where to go with it, and decided just to enjoy the surprise and have another grand story to tell over the years at the Eldo.

We were staying in Crested Butte for the weekend and stumbled upon the Eldo; really it was for the humorous sign and location - plus the 2nd floor deck on Elk St. sold us. There were quite a few events going on downtown and it was a good spot to have a few cold cocktails and people watch. Beers are very reasonable and the bartenders are friendly and accomodating. Super chill spot for sure.

Locally brewed beer but we tried a sampler and none were too distinctive. Burgers and fries were excellent. Outdoor patio a plus

I can't believe no one has reviewed this place!! The best bartender in town works here. Ask Heather for a 'ray of sunshine'. You might want to make sure that you tell her you read this review on yelp, since only 3 locals know about this drink. Come on Friday night for Bingo or a band or foosball or pool. Ah, who am i kiddin'....they have booze!! Strong drinks = you tipping BIG.

I've been in this place a dozen times in the last year and it is great. The hand cut fries are amazing, it is one thing that I keep coming back for. Today I had a burger with blue cheese and and now contemplating spending the rest of the on the amazing deck overlooking Elk Ave. It isn't fancy nor is it expensive, some might call it divey but I like that kind of thing. You will be doing yourself a disservice by not checking it out.

I will say that two of the three beers on tap were good. The burgers were also perfectly done, though it took way too long before we were served. About 45 minutes to be precise. Service was rude at worst, inattentive at best. I was left wondering if I just didn't fit in with the punky vibe going on. Lastly, the place was a total dive: dirty, dark, and dingy on inside with cigarette and pot smoke pouring in from the patio. To sum it up, the atmosphere is depressing.

Eclectic little spot that we ended up at by accident--we were headed for the Last Steep Bar and Grill across the street when a transformer blew and that whole side of the street was without power. As it turns out, Eldo has a dandy burger and good beer in a very laid back atmosphere. Outside dining looks nice but it was pouring rain so we opted to stay in. Everything in Crested Butte is a little pricey, and Eldo is no exception, but it wasn't too bad. Might stop here again on our next trip to the Butte.

So far this is the best place we've been to since we arrived in Crested Butte. They have live music, they have an open kitchen, they have a patio that overlooks Elk St. In the center of downtown. We sat at our table and ordered drinks and food, unfortunately the live band ordered just before us so our food was delayed. With this delay came AWESOME customer service, they have the whole table a free round. One person in our group was still hungry so they ordered another burger and that was comped too. Please visit Eldo while in CB!!!

Good burger & fries at 530 pm after a long day, and it was a Wednesday night. I got to hear a great band equipment setup/rehearsal about 6 tonight. "Fishbone" was great even in rehearsal. I plan to return to this place. It seems to get a mixed crowd age wise, but that might be because it's high season. It was my first time ever in Crested Butte.

We were visiting in the off-season, and are experienced tavern folk. This is a place for locals who like to smoke on the deck overlooking town. Beer selection was sub par, service was so-so until "Heather" took over the bar. Otherwise we were invisible to the staff, bartender, etc. Vibe was depressing. Perhaps it would be a three star for us if the service had some energy behind it.
